MaxLinear’s infrastructure business grew 210% YoY in Q3, with management stating it now exceeds all other revenue categories combined. The also company raised its outlook to $260M at the midpoint with 800G PAM4 DSPs driving the bulk of this growth. However, the outlook is less encouraging when we turn to the broader revenue trajectory. Management guidance points to growth slowing to 14.6%, down from 29.1% in the current quarter. Although this is 10 points higher than analyst estimates, there still appears to be a decelerating trend into the first quarter of 2027. That said, there are several paths for MaxLinear to support stronger growth in 2027 and 2028, such as an earlier transition to 1.6T and semiconductor content per optical module doubling. In addition, there have been upward revisions in industry estimates for optical pluggables. Below, we examine management’s bullish commentary while reconciling this with the company’s financial outlook.
